KELLY BRAY VILLAGE HALL | |
Kelly Bray has doubled in size in the last couple of years. The Hall, on the corner of Stoke Road, and Parsons Green is the only general purpose meeting place in the village. While the village has a first rate pub the village needs the hall if a more widely based social life is to develop in Kelly Bray. Money was raised and the land for the hall was sold to Kelly Bray Women's Institute in 1937, by the king "... as a site for an Institute for the Women of Kellybray" i.e. to benefit all women in Kelly Bray and not merely WI members.A Women's Institute is by its very nature a community-based organisation who's aim is to improve the lot of its rural community and the position of women therein. We believe that when KBWI raised the money, and when those who subscribed did so, it was to provide a village amenity. It was sold to KBWI "... as a site for an Institute for the Women of Kellybray" i.e. to benefit all women in Kelly Bray and not merely WI members. Unfortunately it is likely that the only way the Village can keep the hall is to raise enough money to buy it. |
